After completing her training at the Royal Ballet School, Jennet Zerbe began her professional life with American Ballet Theatre. She began studying Pilates with Robert Fitzgerald, who trained directly under Joseph Pilates. Fitzgerald opened his studio in New York in the 1960s with a focus on teaching dancers and injury rehabilitation. Zerbe’s Pilates work was integral to her dance career, and she studied intensively with Fitzgerald throughout her eight years with ABT. After then earning an A.B. from Wellesley College, and working in corporate art, she was drawn back to Pilates and working with the body through movement. In 2004, she began her studies at the Kane School of Core Integration where she became fully certified as a Pilates instructor. She is also a Certified Pilates Teacher through the Pilates Method Alliance. Like her first mentor, Zerbe has a particular interest in working with dancers and injury rehabilitation. She enjoys the range of people she sees at the Pilates Garage, where her clients include: people with no movement training of any kind; to college jocks who have gone into one of the “seated” professions; to professional dancers.
