Not sure where to start? Here is a simple breakdown:
In a private session, you work one-on-one with a teacher for 55 minutes, using mat work alongside equipment like the reformer and the Cadillac. The spring-based resistance offers both a support and challenge - ideal for building strength, addressing specific needs and learning at your own pace. Every session is tailored to you.
In a group mat class, you will practice with up to 7 others using props and your own bodies’ resistance to connect with your core. Our teachers are skilled at guiding a range of students safely and effectively and the group energy can be genuinely motivating.
The two complement each other beautifully. If you are new to pilates starting with a few private sessions can help you build a solid foundation and make your mat classes much richer. Many students do both.
Pre-natal and Postpartum Pilates
Pre-natal Pilates supports the body through the changes of pregnancy, helping you to move safely, stay connected to your strength, and prepare for birth with greater comfort, awareness and confidence. Sessions are thoughtfully adapted to the needs of pregnancy and are designed to support both parent and baby. You will work with a teacher who has additional training in pre-natal and postpartum pilates.
Postpartum Pilates offers a supportive space to reconnect with your body as it adjusts after birth. These sessions can help you rebuild strength, coordination and stability while also addressing the new physical demands of caring for a baby and moving through early motherhood. Our approach is gentle, individualized and responsive to where you are in your recovery.
Please note: Pre-natal Pilates and postpartum pilates are offered as private lessons only. We do not currently offer group classes for this population. The cost is the same as a regular private lesson
Joseph Pilates
Joseph Pilates was born in Germany in 1880. A self-taught athlete his personal training theories grew out of an effort to rehabilitate bed ridden patients in a military camp in the early 1900s. He adapted hospital beds with pulleys, straps and strings to assist them with their exercises. These beds would later develop into the classic Pilates Reformer now used in studios around the world.
